Experience

Department of Energy - Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) | AAAS Science Technology and Policy Fellow

  • Coordinated with Digital Data working group and program management to establish goals and objectives for Office of Science-wide open-data policy initiative (SC PuRe) that will lead to increased data availability, accessibility, and advance towards more FAIR datasets.
  • Coordinated across multiple Office of Science program offices and DOE User Facilities to designate six data resources as SC PuRe Data Resources.
  • Lead project group to develop communication and website materials to accompany the launch of open-data policy initiative that will inform the DOE Office of Science program managers and general public.
  • Developed a plan for the collection key data usage and impact metrics to maintain current knowledge of community data standards.
  • Developed plans for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and strategic communication activities to be presented to SC leadership.
  • Contributed to ASCR’s effort in communicating complex scientific topics including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and quantum computing to the general public via the DOE Explains… web pages
  • Synthesized scientific research accomplishments to generate Science Highlights and promote awareness of ASCR’s contributions to a variety of scientific communities.
  • Coordinated with senior program management to assist ASCR Leadership Computing Challenge (ALCC) including review, prioritization, and implementation and contributed significantly to decision meeting resulting in recommended portfolio with broad DOE program buy-in that was adopted without change by senior management.

Innovative Decisions, Inc. | Analyst

  • Organized and facilitated meetings with government client with aim to produce a reliable statistical modeling package meeting client’s needs.
  • Facilitated meetings with a multi-disciplinary team and developed an opioid-abuse proposal submission.
  • Used statistics, binary-classification and predictive modeling techniques to help company succeed at threat detection challenge problems and secure contract.
  • Built quantitative models to interpret data and communicate results with partner companies and government sponsors.
  • Built data warehousing solution to store large amounts of data for statistical threat detection and analysis.

Johns Hopkins University | Research Assistant

  • Gathered and analyzed large amounts (100 GB) of Coupled Intercomparison Project Phase 5 data and published results in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Collaborated with researchers at other institutions.
  • Designed and executed climate simulations using a General Circulation Model.
  • Analyzed model output, focusing on atmosphere-ocean interactions, ocean dynamics, and ocean biogeochemistry.
